Form and function

"The most beautiful curve is the one that ends where it began." - Oscar Wilde

The heart of the home

Fireplaces have long been revered as the heart of the home, their warmth and comfort drawing families together. However, contemporary heating solutions often prioritize function over form, inadvertently diminishing the sense of intimacy within living spaces.

Judit, in collaboration with Ortner GmbH, sought to redress this imbalance. Leveraging Ortner's innovative technology, which seamlessly integrates heating elements into diverse structures, she reimagines the modern fireplace.

Drawing inspiration from the vernacular architecture of Transylvania, Judit abstracts the traditional forms of these dwellings while also translating the aesthetic of the surrounding land spaces to create a pattern and interest on the surface. Through this process, she redefines the fireplace's aesthetic, creating captivating focal points that resonate within contemporary living environments. These sculptural heating elements not only provide warmth and comfort but also serve as powerful symbols of hearth and home, imbuing the space with a sense of belonging and emotional connection.

Judit's design was awarded first prize at Ortner GmbH's international design competition in 2008.

Beyond the garden: Reshaping outdoor spaces

The symphony of the two rivers

Boulders, rocks, and sediments are scattered along the banks of the rushing river. The dynamic movement of the water has sculpted the large boulders into beautifully shaped forms, capturing the essence of the river's power.

Inspired by this natural phenomenon, the design for the large garden planters was conceived. Large planters give new life for seedlings allowing them to grow even in the harshest of landscapes.

Homage to a visiting bird

Within a tranquil garden, stillness reigns. A bird alights upon a tree, its arrival a delicate disruption of the serene landscape. The bird, with its vibrant presence, becomes an integral element of the garden's narrative.

To capture this ephemeral moment, the bird's form is immortalized as a water fountain. The sculpture, a poignant reminder of the bird's fleeting visit, introduces a dynamic element to the garden, its flowing water echoing the bird's song and animating the tranquil scene. This artistic intervention transforms a transient encounter into an enduring celebration of nature's beauty and the ephemeral nature of time.

Hanging gardens

A visual poem unfolds as drop-like forms, like frozen rain, cascade downwards, tenderly cuddling the plants. While their motionless simple form aires a simple stillness, their surface plays a whispered illusion of motion, a tapestry of intricate details.

Exploring forms for dining

Harmony tea set

Upon entering the tea room, the mind stills. Facilitating a reconnection with the inner self within an ambiance of calm and tranquility.  This reimagined tea set harmonizes geometric forms, creating a sense of balance and equilibrium from independent shapes. The design offers a subtle commentary on how long-standing rituals get transformed by modern life-styles and aesthetics over time into something new, in order to preserve traditions.

The puzzle tea set: A playful assemblage

The puzzle tea set is an experiment to push the boundaries of tableware, exploring how it can transcend mere functionality and evoke a sense of playfulness and joy.

The figure in the pot

Inspired by the rich symbolism found in ancient pottery—where goats represented strength, virility, and fertility, and were seen as Wisdom Keepers of the Earth, and birds served as intermediaries between humans and the divine, embodying protection and the soul's journey—I sought to reinterpret these motifs in modern forms.

This translation aims to rediscover the inherent beauty and concealed symbolism of ancient times.
